Welcome to the Milo Baker Chapter of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS). Our chapter, which is named after the famous Santa Rosa botanist, is located in Northern California's beautiful Sonoma County. CNPS is a statewide organization whose goals are to increase understanding and appreciation of California's native plants, and to preserve them and their natural habitats for future generations. Membership is open to all.
~~~ CHAPTER ACTIVITIES ~~~
General meetings: The third Tuesday of each month (except for July and August) we have a General Meeting at the Luther Burbank Art and Garden Center at 2050 Yulupa Street in Santa Rosa at 7:30 PM. The meetings include speakers and presentations of floral interest.
Field trips: See and learn
the flora of Sonoma County and other Northern California sites.
Conservation activities: Our chapter has three preserves. We perform plant and habitat surveys, monitor threats to native habitat, provide input and expert testimony at county meetings, organize and support workdays to remove invasive weeds, and work to increase public awareness of native plant issues.
Workshops: Attend workshops to learn the growing and propagation of native plants (potting, seed collection, etc.), botany, plant identification, photography, and botanical illustration.
Outreach: Educational programs for local schools and community groups.
Books: Available at our general meetings are a number of books authored by Milo Baker chapter members, as well as other CNPS publications including the fine quarterly journal, "Fremontia".
Fall plant sale: Our huge
plant sale gives you a chance to purchase a variety of natives at a very
reasonable price and to get expert advice on how to grow them. The plant
sale is always the second Saturday in October at the Santa Rosa Veterans Building from 9 AM to 1 PM.
